Metal Braces
Metal braces use small stainless steel brackets bonded to the teeth, joined by a wire that is adjusted over time to guide each tooth into place. They are the most established form of orthodontic treatment and handle a wide range of problems, from crowding and gaps to more complex bite corrections.
Because they stay fixed in place and work around the clock, braces do not depend on remembering to wear them, which makes them a strong choice for children and teenagers as well as adults.

Metal Braces: common questions
Do braces hurt?
Having braces fitted does not hurt. Teeth usually feel sore for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment; soft food and over-the-counter pain relief help.
How long will I need to wear braces?
Commonly one to three years, depending on how much correction is needed. Your orthodontist will estimate your timeline after examining your teeth.
What foods should I avoid with braces?
Hard, sticky and chewy foods such as nuts, toffee, chewing gum and hard sweets, which can break brackets or bend the wire. Cut firmer foods like apples into small pieces.
Will I need a retainer after braces?
Yes. Teeth tend to drift back after braces come off, so a retainer is worn afterwards to hold them in their new position.
Metal or ceramic braces: which should I choose?
Both move teeth the same way. Metal braces are the most robust and suit every kind of case; ceramic braces are tooth-coloured and less noticeable. Our orthodontist will help you choose.
